Filmmaking and Corporatism

Here is a New York Times story today that, despite it being relegated to one of the side-sections of their website, I find absolutely appalling. Michael Moore has spoke out against the court ruling in question (it's curious to me why the actual director of this documentary has not said anything, though). Our Mission, as we have chosen to accept it,

is to provide an outlet on filmmaking in all forms of nonfiction. We are not merely a film criticism blog, even if film reviews and examinations of directors or styles predominate. We also feature screenwriting, press releases on recent film news, film theory, technical shop talk and anything in between. Most of us are filmmakers ourselves; therefore, all of our work comes from an actual filmmaker's viewpoint, rather than a literary, academic or spectator viewpoint. We are 20-somethings, as the lingo goes, so perhaps we're writing from a youthful point of view. Yet some of us have a deeply skeptical view of modern cinema and so-called advancements in film, which are frequently advancements against the moving image. We are distributors, because we write this stuff for people to read. Yet we are collectors, because we gather together every piece of motion we can find on a screen, look at it again, and then again.
