Collectors: Film: The State Encroaches

This is a story about a father-son relationship. Not the kind of father-son relationship story you are thinking of; something closer to a fabulist-realist story. Its backdrop is the imagery of contemporary rural America, its theme is the personal and the political, its dialogue is (largely) in the time honored tradition of a rant. It is about education, it is about fear, it is about media, it is about fathers and sons. And for the less obtuse version: this is a film about a dad who picks his young son up from school three afternoons in a row only to get more and more agitated each day by what he hears on the radio as they drive home.

Our Mission, as we have chosen to accept it,

is to provide an outlet on filmmaking in all forms of nonfiction. We are not merely a film criticism blog, even if film reviews and examinations of directors or styles predominate. We also feature screenwriting, press releases on recent film news, film theory, technical shop talk and anything in between. Most of us are filmmakers ourselves; therefore, all of our work comes from an actual filmmaker's viewpoint, rather than a literary, academic or spectator viewpoint. We are 20-somethings, as the lingo goes, so perhaps we're writing from a youthful point of view. Yet some of us have a deeply skeptical view of modern cinema and so-called advancements in film, which are frequently advancements against the moving image. We are distributors, because we write this stuff for people to read. Yet we are collectors, because we gather together every piece of motion we can find on a screen, look at it again, and then again.
